1-in-6 men in Singapore experience Erectile Dysfunction

The condition is common and treatable

20% Of sexually active men suffer from some degree of Erectile Dysfunction (ED).

The prevalence of erectile dysfunction increases with age, with up to 86% of men aged 80 years or above unable to achieve a satisfactory erection.

What are the causes of Erectile Dysfunction (ED)?

Erectile dysfunction can be associated or caused by other medical conditions:

  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Hormonal imbalance (low male hormones)
  • Prostate inflammation
  • Psychological issues (depression, anxiety, etc.)
  • Neurological conditions
  • Peyronie’s disease (curved penis)
  • Venous leak (cavernosal insufficiency)
  • Obesity
  • Medication side effects

Other Underlying Medical Condition

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is not a life-threatening condition, however, it can often be the first sign of an underlying medical condition such as heart disease, diabetes or other chronic medical conditions. ED can have a considerable impact on a man’s sense of well-being, relationships, and quality of life.

ESWT FOR ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common andrology issue for men and their sexual partners. This condition is treatable.

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is a recommended treatment option for ED. It offers an improvement to natural erections and restores the physiological mechanism that controls the erection process.

How does Extracorporeal ShockWave Therapy (ESWT) work?

01

The doctor applies a probe which generates the shockwaves onto different parts of the groin and penis to deliver the treatment.

02

The shockwaves passes into the penile tissue resulting in;

angiogenesis (the creation of new blood vessels) and the rejuvenation of the smooth penile muscle tissue.

03

This stimulates tissue repair and blood vessel growth, which leads to an overall improvement of blood flow to the penis and enables spontaneous erections.

The Effectiveness of Extracorporeal ShockWave Therapy (ESWT)

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is shown to be a safe, painless, and effective treatment option.

  • Non-invasive
  • Painless
  • Fast procedure (30 mins)
  • Significant clinical benefit
  • Safe without complications that may arise from a surgery
  • A natural treatment option; moving away from a dependence on pills
ED

Other Treatments Options for Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

Oral Medications

Oral medications work by increasing blood flow to penile tissues and are effective for over 80% of patients. There are possible side effects such as headache, nasal stuffiness, feeling flushed, and slight muscle ache.

Please inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking, including over the counter medications or herbal supplements.

Injectables

Injectables are given as a pre-filled injection pen that is self-administered by patients into the penile tissue to achieve an erection rapidly and consistently.

An erection can be attained within minutes of administration and usually will last up to one hour. Your doctor will advise whether this is a suitable treatment for you, as well as demonstrate self-injection technique.

Extracorporeal ShockWave Therapy (ESWT)

ESWT is a method that aims to restore the natural mechanism to enable normal and spontaneous erections by using low-intensity shock waves directly to penile tissues to help stimulate the growth of new blood vessels.

ESWT is shown to be safe, painless, and effective for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction (ED). ESWT is, however, not effective for all types of ED, speak to your doctor to decide if it is suitable for you.

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) Causes & Treatment

FAQs

The probe of the ESWT machine will be applied to various parts of penis for about a total of 15 minutes.

Most patients do not report any pain. Some patients do feel a slight discomfort which is usually manageable. Most just report a firm tapping sensation.

Our doctors will be there with you the entire time. If there is any discomfort, our doctors can adjust the strength of the shockwave to your comfort level.

There is no downtime and no preparation is needed for the treatment, you can continue your daily activities immediately after.

Some patients do report mild discomfort in the penile area after the treatment. This is usually minor and goes away in a few days.

Most of our patient’s report the effectiveness of the treatment lasting into the months and years. However, each patient is different.

Depending on how severe the erectile dysfunction is and what the causes are, results may differ from person to person.

We recommend 6 sessions over a period of a few weeks. The treatment schedule can be tailored to your personal schedule.
