  • Assessment of Risk

Hi Doctor, I sincerely hope that you would be able to provide me with some advice .

Recently, I accidentally touched an unknown fluid on a seat in public . I was worried as one of my fingers had a hangnail ( bleeding wound ) then . Would there be a risk of exposure if the fluid contains hiv ?

Thank you for your time and I sincerely look forward to your reply .

    Best Regards

    Hi Clarify456,

The transmission risk is extremely low for contact between broken skin/wounds and blood/blood-contaminated fluids. If you do not see any visible blood, I think it's fair to say the risk is almost negligible.

      Hi Dr Zeng,
Thank you for prompt reply and I really appreciate it.
Based on my observation , there was not any visible blood in the seemingly transparent fluid when my finger with hangnail wound got into contact with it.
Seen in this light , can I just move on and forget about this incident ?
      Thank you.

      Regards
