  • Chance of Infection

    Hi Doctor Zeng,
Is there any chance of contracting HIV from a finger prick test just like how one’s blood may be contaminated during a blood test(due to the handling and procedure of the blood test)?
    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Hi Query7.

No chance for both as the lancet for finger prick and needle/syringe for blood taking are single use disposable items.

      Hi Doctor Zeng,
I went for a blood test recently.
During the test, I realised that the doctor had placed the straw/capillary tube which was used to draw my blood on a piece of paper (placed on the desk).
I was concerned and worried whether this would be considered as a risk of exposure given the fact that numerous people ( clinic staff)might had gotten in contact with that piece of paper as there might even be hiv contaminated fluids/blood on the paper ( taken into consideration that it was a clinical setting)?
      Thank you.
      Regards
