    Hi Doctors

Appreciate if you could provide some clarity here.

Exposure was on 19 Oct 2019. Went to see a GP on 25 Oct 2019 for a bad sore throat and was given Augmentin antibiotics. It was a 14 tablet course to be taken twice a day.

I did a comprehensive STD check for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea and Trichomonas on 4 Nov and the results all came back negative.

Now my query, will the Augmentin I took interfere with the testing? Is there a possibility I did have the above mentioned STDs and was cured by Augmentin, that's why the tests came back negative.

Appreciate your advice as I want to be sure that my negative results were conclusive that I did not contract any of the mentioned STDs from the exposure.

    Thnk you.

    Hi ACZ,
Augmentin (co-amoxiclav) can treat chlamydia and gonorrhea if they are sensitive to the antibiotic. So there is still a chance you could have had something but had it treated with the Augmentin, resulting in the negative tests.

      Hi Dr Ti

      Thank you for your reply.

May I know what are the chances of this happening, Augmentin treating them?

And usually how many doses of Augmentin would have treated it?

      Thanks and appreciate your reply.
