  • Desperate, discharge

    Male
Intermitten white discharge for a few months
    foul discharge
    Went to DSC
Pcr gonorrhea and chlamydia test: negative, tested twice
Culture: negative. Unsure what test but they took a stick and sticked into urethra

    1) is it possible for me to to have gono or chlam but it is not detected, eg. hiding in reproductive tract. If so what should be the follow up?
    2) should i redo the test? The doctor refuses to give me any antibiotics, my gut feeling tells me it is some sought of infection. He wanted to refer me to a specialist, which will take some time.
    3) what is the prognosis? Any chances of affecting fertility?

Thank you very much for reading.
I really hope I can get another opinion. Have a nice day.

    Hi Lim,

The Gonorrhea and Chlamydia PCR test is pretty accurate, and in the presence of symptoms, a negative test is pretty confirmatory that you do not have gonorrhea or chlamydia. I would assume the culture is for Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma, which are common bacteria that can cause urethritis.

There are a few considerations. One is the testing for Mycoplasma Genitalium, which is a organism that is sexually transmitted that can cause urethritis symptoms as well. If all the tests for infection is negative, you might have chronic prostatitis which may cause intermittent discharges.

You might want to speak with your doctor for further information. Chronic prostatitis is not one condition with one simple treatment.

    Regards
