    Hello Doctor,

    I hope you are well.

My friend gave me a fruit using the fork he had used. He ate one piece of guava with the fork then put the same fork into a new piece of guava and then put that into my mouth. I do have a problem of bleeding gums.

What are the chances of acquiring Hiv/Hepb/Hepc/Syphilis/Herpes/HPV?

Grateful in anticipation of your reply.

    Best Regards,
    Nssn

    Hi nssn,

The chances of transmitting HIV/Hepatitis/Syphilis is almost zero. HPV is spread through skin to skin contact so not too possible as well. Herpes is a possibility but only if your friend is having cold sores at that moment.

Is testing warranted for any of these? If yes, which one and when. Thank you

        Hi nssn,

Not warranted for either. HPV testing for non cervical sites is still not established, and many people are actually infected with HSV1 since childhood.
