  • Inquiry for Treatment Syphilis

    Hi Doc,
Recently, I went for a blood test. My results are "Syphilis Serology (Modified VDRL) :Reactive in 1:1 dilution". I was actually treated with doxycycline in 2013.
Can I seek for treatment with penicillin, to make my vdrl non-reactive? Am I safe for this? Thanks Advance.

    Dear Ryan19,

You can discuss with your doctor on what to do. I would look at the other tests - RPR and TPPAs as well. I might also repeat the test in a few months time to see if there is any change in value. If there isn't any rise in value, then it could be a false positive or a serological scar.

    Thank you
