  • Staphylococcus epidermidis?

can Staphylococcus epidermidis if found in urine and semen cause UTI and prostate infection?

  • #2
    Dear fctalklive,

Thank you for your enquiry. Apologies for the late reply. Staphylococcus epidermidis is a bacteria typically found on skin. It is known as a skin "coloniser", meaning, it dwells on the skin of humans but do not typically cause infection except in specific situations which renders an individual at higher risk of developing infections. Examples are in those with in-dwelling catheters (within the blood stream, or a urine catheter) or any other foreign body devices. If you do not have pain or discomfort on passing urine, an abnormal discharge, a fever , and no pain over the abdomen, then the Staphylococcus epidermidis in the semen or urine may just be a contaminated sample. Though even if you do have these symptoms, which may point to an infection, the most likely cause is not Staphylococcus epidermidis but may be some other bacteria such as E.coli, Klebsiella, Citrobacter and so on.

If you still have these symptoms, please visit the doctor for further evaluation and treatment as soon as possible.
