  • Antibiotic treatment for Gonorrhea

Good day Dr tan, I went to one of your clinic the other day to do a Std diagnosis. In the meanwhile, your doctor gave me 1g of azi and 7 days of doxy for the treatment of both chlamydia and gonorrhea, however I read over the net, that says gonorrhea require IV antibiotic, so I'm just wondering if I met the requirement

Hi. Your antibiotic regimen of azithromycin and doxycycline is acceptable to treat chlamydia and gonorrhea. However, there are of course potential issues with antibiotic resistance with any kind of infection. If you are still having any symptoms, I would recommend a follow up visit and clearance testing to ensure your infection has been treated properly.

Hi rafl, I would consider your testing conclusive (although we do not usually do Western Blot as first line testing, only confirmatory). If you still have any further concerns, you are welcome to visit us for a proper consultation and evaluation.

Hi Doctor, my sex partner was prescribed Tetracycline 500mg,Flagyl 250mg, Pariet 20mg. Is this medicine for STDs?

Hi Tano. The antibiotic regimen you described is not typical for STD treatment. There may be some STD's which are partially covered, but to be honest it sounds more like they were trying to treat H. Pylori (a stomach bacteria). However, I cannot say conclusively what their intention was, so if you have any further concerns it would be better to speak to your partner or his/her doctor. If you wish to discuss further on STD testing or treatment for yourself, please do come down to our clinics for a consultation.

Hi Dr Tan, I had unprotected oral sex with a guy (I’m female)... I went to your clinic for the throat swab test for chamlydia and gonorrhea which was negative. However just scared of a false negative or may not be accurate. Can I just go ahead with treatment taking the antibiotics anyway? I am currently taking an antibiotic for acne now (I think it is doxycycline) should I stop that medicine if I want to go ahead with treatment for the above? What other test should I be doing for inprotected oral? Thanks

              Hi Doc,
I'm a male, I had 5 rounds of condomless and unprotected sex( she cum and sqirted and I ejaculated 5 times) with an HIV positive woman within 24hrs and I am placed on PEP tablet (Effriverenz +Lamivudine + Tenofirvir) within/after 48 hours of exposure..(I sexed from 23rd to 24th October and started pep on the 25th October, i started and took the first tablet at exactly the 47th hours after the first round of sex.
The pep is prescribed to last for 28 days, 1 tabelt daily and today is the 9th day of taking pep.

Is there hope of successful prevention of hiv since I had 5 rounds of unprotected sex instead of a single 1 round of sex? If yes, how long should I wait to go for testing?
