ESWT for Erectile Dysfunction

Men’s Clinic in Singapore (Caring & Treating Since 2005)

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) has been used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) for quite a number of years now, and mounting evidence points to this as an effective treatment option.

With over 4,500 ESWT procedures done, we have successfully helped numerous men overcome erectile dysfunction safely and quickly.

ESWT can be used in a variety of ways. In this page, we discuss it as a treatment option for ED in detail.

Today, we will cover the use of ESWT in 4 areas:

Erectile Dysfunction Treatment with ESWT

ED can be caused by a variety (and quite commonly a combination) of reasons. For patients whose erectile dysfunction can be attributed to reduced blood flow, ESWT can be particularly effective.

A lifetime of inactivity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes can cause the blood vessels in the penis to narrow, reducing blood flow to the penis, resulting in poorer erections. ESWT to the penis has been postulated to induce inflammation, resulting in the body sending more blood and cells to aid in healing processes, repairing blood vessels and penile tissue. It also is thought to increase the growth of new blood vessels, and more blood in the penis means better erections.

It is effective in patients who are already on medications and can improve a patient’s response to the medications as well. Some of our patients are able to reduce their dosages of ED medications or even get off them completely!

What is the treatment like?

The probe of the ESWT machine will be applied to various parts of penis for about a total of 15 minutes.

Most patients do not report any pain. Some patients do feel a slight discomfort which is usually manageable. Most just report a firm tapping sensation.

Our doctors will be there with you the entire time. If there is any discomfort, our doctors can adjust the strength of the shockwave to your comfort level.

No preparation is needed for the treatment. There is no downtime as well; you can continue your day immediately after. Do however book an appointment beforehand, as the treatment can take up to 30 minutes.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Some patients do report mild discomfort in the penile area after the treatment. This is usually minor and goes away in a few days.

Simple painkillers can be taken if this should happen.

How long does it last and how effective is it?

Most of our patient’s report the effectiveness of the treatment lasting into the months and years. However, each patient is different.

Depending on how severe the erectile dysfunction is and what are the causes, results may differ from person to person.

Are there any follow ups?

Each session costs $433 (price is before consultation).

How much does it cost?

We recommend 6 sessions over a period of a few weeks. Treatment schedule can be tailored to your personal schedule.

Some of our patients also choose to continue on a maintenance schedule (e.g. once a month or bimonthly) after the initial 6 sessions.

Conclusion

The ability to have a spontaneous, ready-to-go, strong and lasting erection is the ultimate goal for men with erectile dysfunction.

Whether ESWT can take you the whole way there or be used in combination with other treatment modalities, our experience is that it works.
