What is Frenulum Breve?

Frenulum is too short or too tight

When the frenulum is too short or too tight, it may cause pain during erection or during intercourse. Frenulum Breve or Short Frenulum can be so bad that the penis is curved downwards during an erection. This may cause pain during sexual intercourse and may also cause erectile dysfunction. In some instances it may also cause tearing bleeding of the frenulum during intercourse.

Some men with frenulum breve may have difficulty retracting their foreskin. This condition is called phimosis. The short frenulum makes it more difficult for the foreskin to be pulled back behind the head. In cases like this, they may not need a full circumcision. A frenulectomy may be sufficient to allow free movement of the foreskin, allowing it to be pulled back behind the head of the penis

There is another group of men who may have loose frenulum. This may heighten their sensitivity to sexual stimulation and may lead to premature ejaculation. They may also benefit from a frenulectomy.

What is Penile Frenulectomy?

Definitive treatment for frenulum breve

The definitive treatment for frenulum breve is for a frenulectomy.

Penile Frenulectomy a surgical procedure where the frenulum is cut and removed from the head of the penis.

This is a very simple procedure that can be done under local anaesthesia and only takes 20 to 30 minutes.

After cutting the frenulum, the wound will be stitched together. Stitches will be removed 1 week later.

The wound normally heals within 1 week. Patients are advised not to engage in sexual activity for 1 month to maximize healing.

You should not cause tight, torn, sensitive or broken frenulums to cause you distress. Frenulectomy is simple and fast. Most patients recover quite quickly without any complications.
