The exact cause of seborrheic dermatitis is unknown. It may be related to overgrowth of a yeast known as Malassezia on the skin and the irregular response of the immune system.
What is Seborrheic Dermatitis?
Seborrheic dermatitis is a red scaly rash that commonly affects the scalp and other oil producing areas of the body like the face, sides of nose, eyebrows, ears, eyelids and chest. It is also called seborrheic eczema.
