Most people never know that they have been infected and may give HPV to a sex partner without knowing it.

The group of HPV that may cause cancer is generally referred to as high-risk HPV group. In many cases, it takes decades after the initial infection with the high-risk HPV group before cancer develops and mentioned previously, most people do not know that they have been infected as there are usually no symptoms.

One of the most effective ways of protecting oneself from getting infected with HPV in the first place is to get a HPV vaccine.
The latest HPV vaccine directly protects against 9 strains of HPV but also cross protects against many other strains.
Since the majority of HPV related cancers are caused by only a few strains, the HPV vaccine reduces the risk of developing HPV related cancer by more than 90%.
This new HPV vaccine indicated in males 9 through 45 years of age for the prevention of anal cancer caused by HPV Types 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58; precancerous or dysplastic lesions caused by HPV Types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58; and genital warts caused by HPV Types 6 and 11.

At Dr Tan and Partners, we recognize the importance of testing and detecting early for the high-risk HPV group especially in women and also in men who engage in sex with men as they may be infected with high-risk HPV but are unaware of it as there is usually no symptoms after the infection.
As such we are offering next working day results for Rapid HPV testing of the high-risk HPV.
This is a highly sensitive test (>90%) that detects the presence of high-risk HPV using the technology of detecting the DNA of the high-risk HPV group.
All that is required is either Vaginal, Penis, Throat, or Anus samples depending on where the infection is likely to be present.

With most clinics, HPV test results are only available after 3-7 working days. These real-time PCR Rapid HPV test results are available by next working day.
As most people who are infected do not have any symptoms, you may have been infected without knowing it and you may transmit it to your sexual partners. Testing is recommended especially for the women who are sexually active and men who engage in sex with men.
No. All that is required is that the doctor will use a brush to collect some cells from the cervix of women or cells from the area of the penis in men or cells from the anus of both sexes.
For women, you can also opt to do a pap smear together with the same test. So you do not need to be subjected to 2 separate procedures as the same brush can be used to send for both tests.
Generally it is a painless procedure to take the samples as we are just brushing the surface of the sample areas.
